Ecosystem for sharing of Knowledge

The academic and research expertise of Behala College contributes in creating an ecosystem for sharing of knowledge through collaborations and for innovations through motivation and infrastructure revolving around knowledge management. It largely involves sharing of knowledge between multiple disciplines to make the best use of knowledge.

Sharing of Knowledge:

  • Departments of Computer Science and Electronics involved in intradepartmental teaching.
  • Departments of Geography, Zoology, Botany, Chemistry and Physics involved in Teaching Environmental Science Course for the students of semesters I and II.
  • Department of Sanskrit, Philosophy, Political Science involved in teaching Indian Knowledge System for students of semester – II.

Thus, Behala College focuses on management of knowledge as a strategic asset and encourages the sharing of knowledge.

  • Faculty from the Department of Statistics and Computer Science involved in teaching both theoretical and practical modules of Core Course and Discipline Specific Elective courses of Chemistry Honours Semester-V.
  • A joint Research Project on “Competitiveness and capacity building in handicraft sector: A case study of Zari and Kantha embroidery clusters in West Bengal” funded by Indian Council of Social Science Research – Eastern Regional Centre (ICSSR-ERC) is being implemented under the Principal Investigatorship of Dr. Ujjaini Mukhopadhyay, Associate Professor of the Department of Economics and Ms. Kusumita Datta, Assistant Professor, Department of English. (Sanction Amount: 1.5 lacs, Tenure: 2022-23)

                                                 CENTRAL RESEARCH FACILITY

Table-top centrifuge

UV spectrophotometer

High Precision Balance

Ultraviolet Cabinet

Surface Tensiometer

is housed at the Research Lab in the Post Graduate Section of the Department of Chemistry. These instruments are shared by the faculty and students and research scholars of Chemistry, Food & Nutrition, Zoology and Botany, Physics and Electronics.

Instrument Room (set up with aid of RUSA grant) within the Department of Chemistry, which houses a Perkin Elmer Ultraviolet-Visible Spectrophotometer and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrophotometer which are utilised by the Departments of Chemistry, Physics, Zoology, Electronics, Botany and Food & Nutrition for research work, students and teachers alike. A number of faculty members across all science departments are engaged in research on multidisciplinary areas like nano science and material science, biotechnology etc. for which this research central facility has been put to good use.

A Network Research Centre set up with UGC grants is housed in the first floor of college where there are 7 desktops at present which are jointly used by the students of the Department of Physics and Chemistry. These machines are equipped with Linux and Windows OS and are used to carry out classroom teaching with Python (for the students of Physics), FORTRAN (for the students of Chemistry) and so on.

Intra-departmental research publications from the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Geography. MOUs have been set up with (i) different colleges for faulty exchange and sharing of knowledge (ii) IT organizations for facilitating internships of students, especially for the Departments of Computer Science, (iii) Techno International Batanagar, a premier engineering college for students to participate in workshops and career counselling sessions.
